Efficacy and safety of ultrasound cycloplasty for the treatment of glaucoma: a Meta-analysis

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of ultrasound cycloplasty (UCP) for glaucoma. METHODS: A comprehensive search PubMed, Embase, Web Science, Google Scholar databases was used to select studies met inclusion criteria. Meta-analysis performed by Review Manager StataCorp LLC. RESULTS: total 19 articles Overall, UCP is effective safe in glaucoma treatment, risk ratio (RR) success rate 2.28 (95%CI, 1.82-2.84). After UCP, patients had a significant reduction intraocular pressure (IOP; mm Hg), weighted mean difference (WMD) 11.39 9.88-12.90). In addition, brings fewer postoperative complications with RR 0.30 0.19-0.49). Most were short-term mild. Postoperatively, patients’ use IOP-lowering medications reduced, standardized (SMD) 0.78 0.40-1.17). However, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA; logMAR) did not have obvious improvement after WMD 0.01 -0.06-0.09). This procedure does provide painfulness relief, 3.06 1.95-4.81). CONCLUSION: suitable It can effectively decrease IOP patients, reduce dependence on surgery, relief has long-term or severe complications, but BCVA improve much.
